Prologue...

Just after completing class-X examination, a student finds himself/herself at a cross road. It is due to the fact that he/she is about to pursue a goal in life which will automatically lead to the academic hurdles and those need to be surmounted before the career takes a definite shape. Especially those who opt for an Engineering /Medical career have two major barriers which are to be overcome viz :

1. Completions of +2Sc. with a good grade.

2. Getting a successful rank in Entrance Exams of choice.

In this context we seen now, two different mind sets at the student, parent and teacher's level such as:
Past, traditional mode of approach :
It is to let the student take +2 Sc. exam first and after completing he/she needs one/two years extra for entrance level preparation before succeeding. Based on a vague traditional thinking that the student can't cope-up with the preparation for +2 Sc. and entrance simultaneously. It carries an inherent danger of forcing the student to loose one or two years of precious time. Considering the present fast track life style and carrier opportunities it is simply unaceptable.

Present, latest mode of approach :
It should be to let the student work for +2Sc. and entrances side by side. Provide all possible help towards this. Switch over to modern style of teaching, inspire the student, instill confidence in him/her and make the student work hard. Expose the student to the most updated books and study materials. As a consequence the student succeeds both in +2 and entrance simultaneously. It saves precious time and also competition, boosts up the confidence of the student to face the future.

By the way do you know that in the present years almost all top qualifiers of national level entrances are the students who have just appeared +2 Sc. exam. It seems that Orissa is left out. The culprit is the archaic pattern of imparting the +2 Sc. education in Orissa, which is only suited to make the student pass +2 Sc. exam only. No orientation/training at entrance level is usually given to the student during his/her +2 level.

Facts as above forces one to think: Why Orissa is left out ? Do we lack quality student who can compete at national level ? Is our style and standard of imparting +2 education as per with that of at national level. Do we posses academic institutions who can impart fine training and guidance and make our students compete with the best in the country. Next...
